Congratulations to Marty Walsh for US Secretary of Labor Nomination

Congratulations to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh on his nomination for U.S. Labor Secretary. Marty’s been a steadfast champion of Local 534 and the building trades throughout his career.

As mayor, he created over 100,000 jobs and fought tirelessly for working families. He started out as a union Laborer right here in Boston and stood with us through thick and thin as leader of the Greater Boston Building Trades Unions, a state representative, and then Mayor of Boston.

“Walsh has never forgotten where he came from, what values he stands for, and who he fights for,” said OPCMIA President Daniel E. Stepano in a statement. “We look forward to closely working with him and we urge the Senate to swiftly confirm him to this vital Cabinet position.”

Walsh will be the first union member to lead the Department of Labor in more than 50 years. We look forward to standing alongside him in the years ahead.
