Is an Apprenticeship Right for You?

A union apprenticeship puts you on the path to a good-paying job by providing you with hands-on experience, classroom training, and a paycheck all at the same time. Local 534 is proud to offer world-class training through our Joint Apprenticeship & Training Program, providing individuals with the skills and experience to succeed as Plasterers and Cement Masons.

We are big believers in earning while you learn! Our seasoned craftsmen will help you grow, while you also get the chance to develop your skills on job sites. There’s never a dull moment when you’re training as an apprentice with Local 534.

Remember the industry-leading wages and benefits after you complete your training and graduate! Not convinced? See what our current apprentices have to say about it:

Important Trainings in October

There are important trainings happening in October. Make sure you sign up to renew your aerial lift training or learn more about being a shop steward!

If your aerial lift certification is about to expire, sign up for the aerial lift training on Saturday, October 29 from 7 am to 12 pm at the union hall. Please be sure to check the expiration date on your card and reserve a spot as soon as possible. Spaces are limited and spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

For more information, call Billy Redmond at 617-901-5550.

As well, all shop stewards are invited to attend MBTU’s Construction Stewards’ Forum on Wednesday, October 19 from 5 pm to 8 pm via Zoom. Get great tips on how to be a steward from some of the best. This training will be led by Pat Walsh from Laborers Local 223.

Training the Next Generation

Thumbnail - Plasterers and Cement Mason 534 VR Simulator Video

Local 534 was excited to debut our new VR training system to the next generation at the Girls in the Trades Conference and YouthBuild Boston. Both groups were able to try out the new VR system and get a feel for what it’s like on a real-life job site. The new VR system demonstrates first-hand how appealing joining our crafts can be as we work to recruit the next generation of plasterers and cement masons.

We’re revolutionizing how we train our apprentices and continue to deliver high-quality education. By mimicking natural work environments, pre-apprentices, apprentices, and journeypeople learn proper techniques before ever setting foot on a job.
