Fall is here, and so is the latest edition of our newsletter. Catch up on what’s been happening at Local 534 by reading the newsletter online or waiting for the print copy to hit your mailbox.

This edition shares essential information on voting in this year’s midterm elections, keeping each other safe on the job site, and finding flexible child care options. You’ll also find an apprentice spotlight featuring second-year apprentice Damien Fuller and our late brother and friend, Nasahn Davis.

Important Trainings in October

There are important trainings happening in October. Make sure you sign up to renew your aerial lift training or learn more about being a shop steward!

If your aerial lift certification is about to expire, sign up for the aerial lift training on Saturday, October 29 from 7 am to 12 pm at the union hall. Please be sure to check the expiration date on your card and reserve a spot as soon as possible. Spaces are limited and spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

As well, all shop stewards are invited to attend MBTU’s Construction Stewards’ Forum on Wednesday, October 19 from 5 pm to 8 pm via Zoom. Get great tips on how to be a steward from some of the best. This training will be led by Pat Walsh from Laborers Local 223.

In Memory of Nasahn Davis

In September, we lost our beloved brother, friend, and Local 534 apprentice, Nasahn Davis. His obituary has been posted, and you can read it here.

There will be a funeral service for Nasahn this Thursday, October 6th, at 10 am at Carver Den Auditorium. More information on the service can be found here.

We want to take this time to remember our friend and his family and offer our condolences.

Modern Assistance is also available to all members, with dedicated councilors ready to take calls or visits for anyone who would like help during this troubling time.

Rally for Maura Healey on September 24

Thanks to your support, Maura Healey won the primary for Governor of Massachusetts with more than 80% of the vote. But we’re not done yet.

Join us this Saturday as we get fired up for November and knock doors for Maura Healey for Governor. There will be a rally and canvass to kick off Maura’s post-primary campaign on September 24 at IBEW Local 103 (256 Freeport St 1 Boston, MA 02122) from 9:30 am to 1 pm. Make sure to RSVP here:

The general election is right around the corner, and the clock is ticking to elect a governor who stands up for unions and the working people we represent. As Attorney General, Maura fought against wage theft and worker misclassification. She has our backs, so let’s have hers.

Make the most of your apprenticeship and join us for the MBTU Futures meeting on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 4-6 pm, at Insulators Local 6 (303 Freeport St. Boston, MA).

Rick Rothwell, training director of Insulators Local 6, and JATC Training Instructors will be there to provide their insight on apprenticeships and answer your questions.

Local 534 Announces Endorsements for September 6 Primary

Local 534 is proud to announce its list of endorsed candidates for the 2022 primary election. These 24 candidates, running for office at all levels of government, have earned Local 534’s endorsement through their strong individual records of fighting for workers’ rights.
